what does it mean when a young girl takes first communion ?
I was watching a movie and the young girl was very upset that her father missed her first communion, why is it so important for a young girl and why are her people so proud ??
First Communion is a rite of passage for a Catholic. It's important in the Church for a child's parents to be there. Having a father watch shows the Church and everyone else watching that he is a good Catholic too, and a sign that this girl is living in a good Catholic family. I guess it's almost as bad as a father not showing up at a wedding to give away the bride when he is fully able to do so.
