Do most people in high school bring a bag or a purse?

Do most people in high school bring a bag to carry books in to class or do they bring a purse and just carry their books in their hands? Or do they bring both?

during the first week of school when we don't have a lot of stuff/books to carry i bring just a purse and carry my stuff... but once the teachers pass out books then i wear a backpack (jansport!)
