How big (or small) should we cut the wedding cakes according to their sizes?
I'm having a dilemma regarding cake size. I have been to numerous bakeries and each has a different serving size depending on the specific cakes I have chosen. One place says a 12" round will serve 65 when another bakery states their 12" will serve only 30-40. Who's correct?
Theoretically, I am planning to purchase a 12" round (at 65 servings) and a 3-tier bridal cake (6"x10"x12" round) at 118 (which includes the top layer). Our invitee count is 150 but as the RSVPs roll in, I don't think we'll have the full 150 showing. Do you think this is enough cake for the guests? And if so, how big (or small) should we cut the cake slices so that everyone gets a piece? I think this has got to be THE most stressful part of the wedding, by far. Any help would be appreciated!
The size most people cut the cake is like in one inch pieces and the is because the bakers base it on that size when they tell you the cake will serve X amount of people. If you cut it in the 1 inch slices you will have enough to feed like 182 people. If no every body shows on the wedding day do a little bigger then average slices. Or you could serve seconds is you chose to cut the normal size.
